Noise reduction

Machines and devices are mostly designed with the goal of an optimum functionality regarding their actual purpose. However, they often produce too much noise. We advise you on the question of a  systematic low-noise design and help you find solutions that are also acoustically acceptable.

Design of Mufflers and Silencers Print
Image In general, mufflers are used for the attenuation of airborne sound in ducts without essential influence and interference of the medium streaming through the duct. On the basis of theoretical considerations, the Gesellschaft für Akustikforschung Dresden mbH deals with the design and optimization of specific mufflers adapted to devices and machines.

Design of Enclosures Print
Image Enclosures avoid the sound propagation in the immediate vicinity of the noise source. Compared to other possibilities of sound reduction, e.g. the attachment of sound absorbers to the walls and the ceilings, not only the diffuse sound pressure level in the room is reduced. Under the constraints of professional design, also the emission sound pressure level can be lowered drastically. So, the mean dose rate of noise, a worker is exposed in the near of a machine, is reduced considerably.

Modal analysis Print
ImageThe vibrational response of a excited structure is characterized by occuring natural vibrations. After stopping the excitation, at discrete frequencies (natural frequencies) there are free vibrations (natural vibrations) of the system that show different modes. Using modal analysis the occurring vibrational response can be investigated.

Possible classification of passive mufflers Print
ImageMufflers can be classified in passive, active and hybrid mufflers depending on the working principle. Passive mufflers are named by the fact, that only passive elements, e.g. changing cross sections in the duct and sound absorbing materials achieve the sound attenuation.

Suction mufflers and mufflers of exhaust pipes Print
Image The Gesellschaft für Akustikforschung Dresden mbH has long-standing experience in the field of design and optimization of passive mufflers adapted to devices and machines. On demand, special mufflers are designed as a matter of target and are tested in the laboratory as well as on serial device.
