 Subject of a research project in cooperation with the Fraunhofer Institut für Fertigungstechnik und Materialforschung Dresden, which is granted by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research of the Federal Republic of Germany (BMBF), is the development of an extremely heat-resistant sound absorber consisting of hollow metal spheres. Besides excellent acoustic properties, this special sound absorber shows certain mechanical and chemical characteristics (solidity, corrosion resistance).

Besides acoustic and mechanical parameters, the Gesellschaft für Akustikforschung Dresden mbH also determines specific parameters of acoustic, porous absorbers and materials for you. These properties can be applied as input parameters to different absorber models allowing the prediction and optimization of the sound-absorbing behavior. 
An accurate prediction of airborne sound insulation and structure-borne sound attenuation requires the knowledge of certain mechanical properties of materials. These material parameters can be determined using suitable measurements on single material samples or multi-layer structures. 
Metal fiber sound absorbers possess a couple of advantages compared to the commonly used fiber absorbers consisting of glas wool and mineral wool. That alone makes them interesting for certain applications.
In the course of numerous projects that have been carried out so far, investigations on a wide range of acoustically and vibrationalIy effective materials took place. The basis for these investigations are measuring methods for the determination of acoustic and mechanical material properties, that are carried out in the laboratory of the company or in situ.
